Establishing an Effective Return-to-Work Program

Gain the knowledge and confidence you need to effectively run your return-to-work program with in-depth classroom discussions and case studies.


Learning Objectives:


  • Understand the practical legislative requirements for return to work
  • Know how to develop the components of an effective return-to-work program 
  • Learn how to better monitor and report employee absence and how to incorporate an absence management plan into your general labour plan and budget 
  • Learn how to prepare a business case for return to work
  • Learn how applicable benefit programs related to employee absence (i.e. EI Sickness benefits, WSIB, STD, LTD) should work together for the best overall return-to-work outcomes
  • Understand how win-win systems and strategies work to reduce employee lost time while achieving the best outcome for them
  • Learn how to identify red flag situations / overly complex situations early on
  • Monitor and learn how to continuously improve your return to work program more effectively with metrics, employee surveys, and benefit reviews

This workshop is highly recommended for Business Owners, HR Professionals, *Health & Safety Professionals, Disability Managers, Joint Health & Safety Committee Members, and anyone who supervises employees and oversees WSIB, STD, LTD, and absence management.

  • Understand how to use the job demands analysis more effectively
  • Learn how the job demands analysis best integrates with other existing HR and Safety documentation (i.e. job descriptions, job task hazard analyses, and any related return-to-work plan documents)

Cancellation/Refund Policy

 All cancellation/refund requests must be sent in writing to info@workplacesafety-ontario.com. Cancellation requests received due to personal or family medical reasons (doctor’s note required) prior to registration deadline will be given a full refund minus $50.00 administrative fee or after registration deadline will be given a 50% refund. Cancellation requests for any other reason received prior to registration deadline will be given a 50% refund or received after registration deadline will be provided no refund. Substitutions are permitted, subject to a $50.00 administrative fee. 


WS&WS reserves the right to modify the workshop title, description, registration dates and information on the workshop webpage.  WS&WS will notify participants 4 weeks prior to the workshop if there is insufficient registration by that date and reserves the right to cancel a Workshop due to insufficient registration up until 10 business days prior to the workshop. WS&WS reserves the right to modify the offering, interrupt Workshops, change the timing of a Workshop, cancel a Workshop or change the location of a Workshop due to the presenter no longer being able to present the Workshop, severe weather, power failure, building closures or other special circumstances that are beyond the control of WS&WS by notifying participants as soon as possible. If the Workshop is cancelled by WS&WS, registrants will receive a full refund of the registration fee. WS&WS will not be responsible for other costs or expenses incurred by registrants as a result of any such changes.
